The question everyone is asking is "Why?". Why did this man commit suicide. Why outside of the jail after being released on his own recognizance? Why? Many times this question goes unanswered.

In the morning hours of January 18th, 2018 on a Thursday, 32 year old Chase Higgins was released from custody, shortly after he was found dead from an apparent suicide (self inflected gun shot). He was discovered out side the county jail in a car which was running and head lamps on.

This is a tragic story one we never want to hear. We hope that a full investigation takes place as to why this happen and how it transpired. We understand that many times once something like this is called a suicide the police involvement ends. We do not want this to be the case here.

The city of Warsaw needs to see this as a break down between our justice system and the community it serves. For someone to so dramatically end their own life on city property is clearly an indication that we as a community are failing some of our most vulnerable at risk citizens. We get it we can't help all of the people all of the time however, this case is unique. This case is quit literally on your door step. We truly hope someone takes this case and investigates all aspects and asks the questions we have not thought of. Why wasn't the gun found (at the time of arrest)? Who did the search of his vehicle and missed the gun (at the time of arrest)? Was his gun legally owned?

Suicide is something that can strike families from all walks of life. It is not a problem that is only effecting some its something that can effect all of us. If you or a loved one is at risk please seek help. Understanding it is ok to ask for help is very important. It is ok. We all need help please do not be ashamed to ask for it.
